Hello, welcome back to a slice of success cake business talk.
I'm so glad to have you here.
I hope you're doing well.
I hope if you are in the UK, you are you enjoying these few days of beautiful weather. Um it's not overly hot, but it's just nice to see the sun come out and it just kind of makes the day better, doesn't it, having the sun shining?
So, yeah, I hope you're enjoying it and wherever you are, I hope the weather is lovely. So have you been busy?
Have you been baking?
Have you been juggling life?
Are you just trying to calve out a little bit of breathing spaces this week?
What have you been up to?
And I have been busy back in wedding cakes at the moment, so, um I did one last week.
I've got another one. This week, um took another booking for another one this morning, so you know, kn need deep in wedding cakes right now, which is amazing, um I also currently in the middle of a workshop that I'm doing completely free inside a private Facebook group, um called the confident Cape business workshop . So, today, I wanted to have a real chat with you about showing up and not showing up as the cake maker who you are today, but as the cake maker, you want to become . And I'm doing that because this week inside the confident cake business workshop, and even if you're not joining us there, this message is something you probably need to hear.
And so that's why I'm talking about it today.
So when you think about the dream version of your business, the customers, the style of cakes that you make, the income, the freedom, who is running that business.
You are thinking about your future self here.
So when you think about that dream version of you and your cake business, who is running that business?
I bet there are confident, clear about their values, proud to talk about their cakes, and not afraid to be seen . I am sure that that is sort of a breakdown of the type of person who is running your dream cake business, and that person is you . If that's the cake maker that you want to be, are you showing up like that today or are you waiting until you feel ready or until you look successful enough or until you've learned that particular skill.
Are you waiting?
Or are you already showing up like her?
Now, most likely you are waiting because it's natural.
We don't live enough future selves.
We live in ourselves now and that person now is not very confident, struggling with self doubt, comparisonitis, all of it.
So we are currently in that waiting until you feel ready stage and we'll always be in that waiting to feel ready stage because confidence it doesn't arrive at a leat little box once you ticked enough boxes.
It is something that you build by showing up again and again and again, even when it feels messy.
That's the only way that you are going to get out of the I'm not quite ready at stage is to start doing it.
The cakemake is that you admire out there, they didn't start out feeling 100% ready either . They just started showing up like they deserved to be there.
So, for example, I when I moved from celebration cakes to wedding cakes, um I knew that I had to start attending wedding fairs . And I wasn't in that I'm ready stage.
I was waiting until I felt ready.
But if I had kept waiting until I felt ready to do a wedding fair , I would probably still be waiting today, but I didn't wait.
I had to just make that decision to do it.
I booked my very first wedding fair and I tell you my nerves.
I was so nervous.
You know, like sweaty, shaking, couldn't quite get my words out, didn't really know what to say, didn't talk to anybody there.
Just kept myself to myself at my little stage, uh little stand, which I think I if I remember, I had two cakes on display , didn't have any samples and I had a couple of leaflets because I had never done one before.
I had no idea what to do, what to expect, how to behave, what to take with me.
I didn't have a clear about any of it, but I still did it, and the most amazing thing was I actually got a booking on the day of the wedding affair.
Now, I'll admit, it's probably got nothing to do with the fact that I had an amazing stand because I didn't.
I was the only cake maker at the wedding fair and I was highly undercharging my cakes.
But I got a booking and my very first wedding fare and that completely changed the way I felt.
I felt ready to do more as I said, it's confidence and this feeling ready.
It it doesn't just come to you.
You don't just wake up one day and go yes, today are ready let's do this.
You wake up and you think maybe I could take one little step towards being ready.
My one little step towards being ready was actually just booking the weddingare.
There was no backing out once I booked it, so my one little step was booking the wedding fair. And then every little step after that took me to the wedding fair and then you know, here I am today, making the wedding cakes and loving the wedding fairs.
It is something that takes time, takes time to build, and you don't have to overhaul everything today.
It is about the small shifts that help you step into the next level version of yourself, one tiny action at a time.
So, you know, some examples of small shifts that you can make talk confidently about your prices and your process, even if that is just updating your website doesn't have to be any more than that.
It's why we're looking at the small, tiny actions.
You could post a cake that you are proud of onto social media and tell the story behind it.
That is really nothing too difficult, just posting a cake to social media.
You could go and rewrite your Instagram bio as if you are already the expert that your dream customers are looking for.
That's as simple as it is, just go into your Instagram bio and change the way that it's written to make it sound like you already are that expert stepping into the future You . you can say no.
Now this is a difficult one.
You can say no to a key order that doesn't align with what you want to be known for that what you don't enjoy saying no doesn't mean you've just closed down your des.
Saying no means you are making a decision to take the next step into the direction that you want to go . You can create a highlight, so on Instagram, you can create highlights that are shown on your bio and you' highlight can walk people through your booking process, professionally.
You know, if you want to appear more professional and start attracting high and paying customers, you need to show up as someone who makes higher paid takes.
If you want to book dream customers, you need to start talking, posting and acting like the cake maker that they are looking for you know confidence isn't something you find.
It's something you build and showing up like the cake maker that your dream customers are already looking for is going to allow you to start attracting those dream customers because if they don't see you as the c cake maker they want, they're not going to buy from me.
They don't see the cake maker you will be come.
They see the cake maker you are now.
So you have to start acting like the cake maker you want to be.
And it is not about pretending to be somebody you're not.
It's about stepping into more of who you already are.
It is okay if it takes time.
Every little shift compounds into really big changes.
I recently read a book called the compound effect um it's in thehe breaks limit book club.
If you've not heard about the book club, I will link it in the notes, but essentially, this book explains that every single little thing you do in your day will compound over time to either give you amazing results, leave you exactly where you are, or take you backwards.
You've gotta think about where you want to be and what are you doing right now that will take you in that direction.
You know, do you want to are you currently a celebration cakeaker , but you want to be a wedding cake maker eventually?
What are you doing today?
Taking you a step closer to that dream?
Are you just thinking about I would love to do that one day or actually doing something to get you there?
And even if there's something really, really small, like practicing stacking dummies or practicing a weddingesque design, you know, saying no to celebration cakes because you want to start taking wedding cake orders.
Are you doing something today that is going to take you towards your goal or away from it?
You are already good enough.
You are already worthy of the business that you dream about.
It's if it's a dream, then it can be achieved.
I totally believe that we don't have these goals and these dreams for nothing.
I think we would only have them if we were capable of actually achieving them, but to actually achieve them, we have to do something and it's the fear that can hold us back from doing anything.
It's like when somebody says, oh, I want to do something life changing, then it's you know, if somebody will be there and they'll say, oh, but yeah, it's it's not right time.
It's not the right time.
Is it ever gonna be the right time?
How would you know it's the right time?
Um, when we were looking to a completely off topic, but when we were looking to buy our first home from renting to buying, my husband always was saying it's not the right time. You know, the the market's not quite right.
The interest rates are not quite right.
The prices are too high.
It's not no, it's not quite the right time.
But when is the right time?
When is the right time?
How will you know that that right time has arrived ? How do you know that?
You don't.
You will never know if you were constantly waiting for the right time to do something, you'll always be waiting . Even if you're not confident, you still have to take some kind of step towards your goals, towards your dreams, towards your cake, business dreams.
If you want to be a high end cake maker, then you have to take steps to achieve that.
So what are those steps that you would take?
If you want to start taking bookings more bookings, then you're currently getting what do you doing to attract those bookings?
If you want to move into the wedding cake industry, what are you doing right now that will take you one step closer to that . You know, whatever your goal is, it's irrelevant what your goal actually is, what is relevant is that you are taking the steps towards it.
No matter how tiny those steps are . OK, so start today.
Choose one tiny way to show up like the cake maker you want to be think about it who is it that you want to be when I say who is it?
I'm thinking you know what who is the type of person?
How do they show up?
What is the type of business you want to run?
How can you get there choose a tiny way to show up like the cake maker that you want to be so I want you to write down and if you've never tried journaling, this would be a great option for you to try as well.
Because when I talk about journaling, just get your feelings down on paper, just start writing.
And I want you to answer this question . What does the future version of me do differently starting today?
What does the version of me do differently starting today go ahead write that down and write your answer.
Just let the words come because that's I find that like intuition just sort of flows from you once you start writing and that's what journal ad journaling essentially is.
You letting yourself write the answer without thinking too much, you start writing, see what comes up.
So what does the future version of me do differently starting today?
